Long Distance/Cut Your Phone Bill

Because of frequent changes in tax codes, I can't give exact numbers, however have you ever looked at how much taxes are added to your phone bill. Did you know that any long distance you spend is also taxed? $.05/minute can add up to a lot more that $ .10/minute once you add a $ 20/month minimum or a $ 5 month service fee.

Ok here is the solution:

"Use pre-paid calling cards"

Because there is a monthly fee not to use a long distance service, and if you don't select any, it can be over $1/minute if someone makes a long distance call from your phone.

Or you may use an alternative phone service that will not allow outgoing long distance calls. Even without the ability to call long distance, the phone still allows for 1-800, 1-888 and other toll free numbers. Pre-paid calling cards use a toll free number.

Be careful. If a deal looks to good to be true, it probably is. Many cards offer 1 or 2 cents per minute. However, they require calls to be at least 20 to 100 minutes. So if you get an answering machine, it uses 100 of your 500 minutes. In essence costing you $1 to talk to an answering machine. Not good.

Beside saving on taxes, using pre-paid cards helps to regulate the amount of time spent on the phone talking long distance. 2 hours can pass quickly, therefore 45 minutes cards are ideal, because every 45 minutes you need to put in a new service card number to keep the call.

But it's also great because AT&T cards warn you at least 1 minute ahead by a beep, giving you time to say good bye. I know people who have cut their phone bills by $50/month after the cost of the phone cards.
